                                                                                                                   Change The Furnace Filter

One of many things that you must do when you move into your new home that will save you money and extend the life of your furnace is changing the air filter in the heating and air conditioning unit. Regular filter replacement is the very best thing you can do to keep your furnace in top condition. Monthly filter changes are best, others can go a few months in between changes. When you first move in, you always need to replace the air filter in your HVAC unit. An outdated filter not only doesn’t filter air as well, but it also has a negative impact on air flow, meaning your air handling system or HVAC unit has to work harder and use more energy to pump out lower quality air. It's easy to change the filters just look up filter change in your owners manual or watch a video on youtube. Just search your model and type of furnace you have and see how easy it is. You should also look into all of your vents and make sure they’re as dust-free as possible, if not clean just call a vent cleaning company. I would do this anyway, think about how long it’s been since the last time the vents were cleaned. Especially if the sellers had pets, or used cheap filters, just have the vents cleaned. This improves clean airflow into the rooms. Also, install a smart thermostat and learn how to use it. A smart thermostat automatically increases and decreases your home’s temperature, saving money on cooling in the summer and heating in the winter. They’re easy to install and easy to use. You won’t notice the difference until you see your lower utility bill.

Tip: During your home inspection ask your inspector to show you how to change your filter.
While you’re at it, check the dryer vent to make sure it’s not clogged.
